The SPARKme Space Academy, a center for the dissemination of STE(A)M science, hosted the 25th edition of the 2022 International Astronomy Olympiad. Due to the Russia/Ukraine conflict, the event was held with the participation of the Italian delegation in person and 100 students from over 20 countries connected remotely. This scientific competition among high school students from around the world was promoted by the Ministry of Education – Department for the Education System – General Directorate for School Systems, Evaluation, and Internationalization of the National Education System. The event was organized by Openet, the Italian Astronomical Society (SAIt), and the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), Italy's leading public research institution for astronomy and astrophysics. With particular reference to the astronomy sector, Openet has distinguished itself as a driving force for events such as the national final of the Italian Astronomical Olympiad, becoming the official headquarters of the "A Scuola di Stelle" summer astronomy school, which every year welcomes hundreds of students from all over Italy to Matera.
