The pilot phase concluded with the presentation of the results obtained in the region through the implementation of the new 5G network, capable of guaranteeing improved performance (reliability, security, speed, coverage) for the creation of services capable of promoting digital acceleration in the Basilicata/Apulia region, enhancing the uniqueness of each location.
Over 55 partners, including universities and research centers, public administrations and leading Italian companies, startups and local businesses, collaborated with the lead partner "TIM - FASTWEB - HUAWEI" in the implementation of the project, intervening in the 10 application areas identified:
- Media – Realtà Virtuale: Video Distribution and Contribution
- SMART Port: Security, Logistics
- SMART City: Monitoring and Transport
- SMART AgricolturePrecision Agriculture
- Public Safety: Safety for the population and Support for the police
- Industy 4.0: Process digitalization, Production chain
- Sanità 5.0: Diagnostica remota, E-learning ospedaliero
- Mobilità – Sicurezza stradale: Assisted Driving, Logistica
- Turismo e CulturaVirtual tours, augmented reality
- Monitoraggio ambientale: Smart Environment, Smart Infrastructure
With over a decade of experience in the education sector and its applications for distance learning, we have been involved in piloting hospital e-learning, presenting a use case study, implemented with the "E. Fermi" Comprehensive Institute of Matera, of distance learning for students hospitalized at the hospitals of Matera and Potenza. This was achieved thanks to the active participation of the Young Students sector of the SPARKme Space Academy, the technology accelerator developed by Openet in partnership with the Italian and European Space Agencies.
The experiment consisted of:
- Test a new distance learning model capable of guaranteeing children hospitalized in hospitals the right to education and to maintain relationships and contact with the school system, through the use of the new 5G technology;
- Verify and evaluate the interconnection and interoperability of different telecommunications networks: satellite and 5G.
The actions and technical interventions implemented for the described activity are reported:
-
- technological equipment of school and hospital environments;
- “ad-hoc” configuration of ICT and network devices (LAN routers and 5G CPE);
- installation and setup of teaching and videoconferencing tools;
- teacher training;
- on-site and remote technical support.
